two thousand eleven so far

January 2, 2011

Hi from my clean living room, and new laptop. Next step, a backpack of laundry.

My only souvenir from winter break is a purple slingshot organizer (which only mildly reeks of dirty socks that accumulated over a week). Each day the calendar has facts from Radical-American history.

Today is the 33rd anniversary of when the Wahpekute tribe won a settlement for illegal land sales that took place over a century earlier. Also, 211 years ago today, a free black community in Philadelphia petitioned congress to abolish slavery. So, those are a few ways to start a new year.

As for my radical new year — Yesterday I nursed a hangover at brunch, went home, played on the internet for a few hours, fell asleep, and then eventually ended up dancing at a dive bar. Today: more clouds, less hangover.

Tomorrow is the first day of the spring semester. I’ll be doing family medicine. No exam at the end of this one. Read: FREE TIME. Who wants to hang out?

Finally, a joke.

A buddhist goes to a hot dog vender.
Vender: What’ll it be?
Buddhist: Make me one with everything.**

**Thanks Vanessa – I loved seeing you today and can’t wait to see you tomorrow.
